1. How NINZ Uses AI
NINZ may use artificial intelligence and AI-assisted technologies for purposes including:
- researching and organizing information;
- assisting with drafting, editing, summarization, and content development;
- supporting business analysis and internal workflows;
- developing educational resources and interactive experiences;
- assisting with website, technology, and business-support activities;
- supporting customer communications and customer-facing tools; and
- improving NINZ processes, services, and resources.
The specific tools and methods NINZ uses may change as technology evolves.
2. Human Oversight
AI is a tool used to support NINZ operations. It does not replace appropriate human judgment.
NINZ uses human review and oversight based on the nature of the task, the information involved, and the potential consequences of an inaccurate or inappropriate result.
Generative AI systems can produce incorrect, incomplete, outdated, or misleading information. NIST's Generative AI Profile similarly recognizes that generative AI may require additional human review, tracking, documentation, and management oversight depending on how it is used.
3. Accuracy and Verification
NINZ does not assume that information produced by an AI system is accurate simply because it was generated confidently or presented convincingly.
When appropriate, information may be reviewed, compared with other sources, or verified against authoritative sources before NINZ relies upon or publishes it.
The level of verification may vary based on the purpose and potential risk of the information.
4. Privacy, Confidentiality, and Sensitive Information
NINZ seeks to limit unnecessary disclosure of confidential, sensitive, proprietary, or personally identifiable information when using AI systems.
The information appropriate for a particular AI tool depends in part on the tool, its purpose, its privacy and data practices, and the nature of the information involved.
The FTC has specifically cautioned that users of AI services may provide confidential business information, internal documents, or customer data to AI providers and has emphasized that providers must honor their privacy and confidentiality commitments.
NINZ does not encourage customers to provide passwords, authentication credentials, financial account information, or other highly sensitive information through general AI interactions unless specifically necessary and an appropriate secure process has been established.
Use of customer information is also subject to the NINZ Privacy Policy where applicable.
5. AI-Assisted Content
Some NINZ educational materials, website content, business resources, graphics, analyses, or other materials may be created or developed with assistance from artificial intelligence.
AI assistance does not mean content is published without human involvement.
NINZ may use AI during brainstorming, research, drafting, editing, analysis, organization, design, or production while retaining human direction over the final NINZ product or publication as appropriate.
6. Customer-Facing AI
Certain NINZ tools or services may use AI or automation to assist customers with finding information, navigating resources, answering common questions, communicating with NINZ, or completing other business-related activities.
AI-assisted interactions may have limitations. Customers should not rely on an AI interaction as a substitute for qualified legal, financial, tax, medical, cybersecurity, or other professional advice when such expertise is appropriate.
7. Third-Party AI Services
NINZ may use AI technologies provided by third parties.
Those providers maintain their own technologies, security practices, terms, privacy practices, data-handling procedures, and service limitations. NINZ does not control every aspect of a third-party provider's systems or operations.
NINZ evaluates the appropriateness of third-party technology based on the intended business use and available information.
8. Responsible Use
NINZ seeks to use AI in ways consistent with its business standards and customer commitments.
NINZ does not knowingly use AI to:
- intentionally deceive customers about NINZ services or results;
- fabricate business credentials or customer results;
- make unsupported guarantees about business performance;
- impersonate an individual for deceptive purposes; or
- intentionally present unverified AI output as established fact when verification is reasonably necessary.
NIST's voluntary AI Risk Management Framework identifies characteristics such as reliability, safety, security, accountability, transparency, privacy enhancement, and fairness as considerations in trustworthy AI risk management.
9. AI Is Not Infallible
Artificial intelligence systems have limitations.
Outputs may vary between systems and even between repeated uses of the same system. AI-generated information may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, inappropriate assumptions, or other inaccuracies.
Customers should use appropriate judgment when relying on information produced through an AI-assisted NINZ experience.
10. Evolving Technology and Policy Review
Artificial intelligence technology, industry practices, and regulatory guidance continue to evolve.
NINZ may update this policy as its use of AI changes or as relevant technology, guidance, laws, regulations, or business practices develop.
This is particularly important now because NIST states that AI RMF 1.0 is currently being revised.
